Custom Dies & Die Rebuilds

Custom dies for piercing, notching, coping, cut-off, and trimming tube, pipe, and extruded profiles — designed and built in Innovo's own tool and die shop since 1995. We also rebuild and retrofit dies built by other shops.

Dies Built Around Your Part, Not a Catalog

A custom die exists because no standard tool makes your part. Innovo designs and builds dies for one job: producing your part, at your rate, on the press or machine you already run. Because the same shop builds the machines those dies run in, the die and the process are engineered together rather than fitted to each other afterward.

Our tool and die work covers tube and pipe piercing, end notching and coping, cut-off and trimming, and forming — in round, square, rectangular, and extruded profiles. Every die is designed, machined, assembled, and tried out in-house in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

  • Piercing, notching, coping, cut-off & forming dies
  • Built for Innovo machines, your punch press, or another builder's machine
  • Rebuilds and retrofits of dies from other shops
  • Run-off on your material before the die ships

What We Build

Custom Dies for Tube, Pipe & Profiles

Each die is sized to the part, the material, and the press or machine it will live in.

/ 01

Piercing Dies

Single-hole and multi-station dies for holes, windows, and patterns in tube, pipe, and extrusions — including piercing over a mandrel for thin-wall sections.

/ 02

Notching & Coping Dies

End-notch and saddle dies that produce a clean, repeatable fit-up for welding, including the double-notch tooling used in Innovo's H237DN series.

/ 03

Cut-Off & Trim Dies

Punch-press cut-off dies from 1" to 6" round capacity, and special dies for cutting and trimming bent tubular parts after bending.

/ 04

Forming & Special Dies

Forming, flattening, and combination dies for parts that need more than one operation in a single hit.

Die Rebuilds & Retrofits

Dies From Other Shops, Brought Back to Production

Not every die that needs work was built here. Innovo rebuilds and retrofits dies originally built by other die shops — worn dies, dies whose builder is gone, and dies that need to run a new part size or a changed print. We evaluate the existing tool, tell you plainly whether a rebuild or a new die makes more sense, and quote both when the answer is close.

  • Worn or damaged dies restored to print
  • Retrofits for a new tube size, hole pattern, or notch profile
  • Replacement details and clamp blocks for existing dies
  • Dies from builders no longer in business

What We Need to Quote a Custom Die

Four things let an Innovo engineer size the die and quote it accurately.

/ 01

The Part

A print or a sample part. A photo and a sketch with dimensions is enough to start.

/ 02

The Material

Tube OD and wall, or profile and gauge, and the material — steel, stainless, aluminum, or other.

/ 03

The Press or Machine

What the die will run in: an Innovo machine, your punch press (tonnage, bed, shut height), or another builder's machine.

/ 04

The Rate

Parts per hour or per shift you need. Rate drives whether the die is manual, automatic, or belongs in a machine.

Frequently Asked

Custom Dies, Answered

What is a custom die?
A custom die is press or machine tooling designed and built for one specific part and operation — piercing a hole pattern, notching a tube end, cutting off to length, or forming a profile — rather than a general-purpose tool. Innovo Corporation designs and builds custom dies in its own tool and die shop in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, and has since 1995.
What kinds of custom dies does Innovo build?
Innovo builds custom dies for tube and pipe piercing, notching, coping, cut-off, and trimming, as well as dies for forming and for extruded profiles. Dies are built to run in Innovo machines, in a customer's own punch press, or in machines built by other manufacturers.
Can Innovo rebuild or retrofit a die that another shop built?
Yes. Innovo rebuilds and retrofits dies originally built by other die shops, including dies whose original builder is no longer in business. Send the die or its drawings and the part it produces, and Innovo will evaluate whether a rebuild, a retrofit, or a replacement die is the better option.
What information do you need to quote a custom die?
A part print or sample part, the tube or material specification (OD, wall, material), the press or machine the die will run in, and the target production rate. With those, Innovo can quote the die. Before it ships, Innovo runs your material through the finished die so you can approve part quality before acceptance.
Do you run sample parts before the die ships?
Yes. Before a die or machine ships, Innovo runs customer-supplied tube or material through it and provides the finished parts and cycle time for your approval. Acceptance is based on parts you have inspected, not on a promise.

Have a Part That Needs a Die?

Send the print, the material, and the rate. An Innovo engineer will scope the die and quote it — and you approve finished parts before it ships.
